Hello Shouseki Learners

I hope you are doing well today and enjoying your school break, and I hope you are partying your socks off in honor of freedom, Lakota style. At dawn on 01-01-08 a bunch of hard work will begin for you, but you will love it because your Aunties Etc. will have built that feature right in to the Shouseki Academy learning resource administration device.

But first, please oblige them while they recite a few jokes etc. for you. The answers to these have been withheld until the first day of school so that you will be extra-motivated to show up. Once you have the answers to these in a crafty format, you will never need to skip breakfast again, no matter how hard times may become!

If you would like to start setting the table for a Shouseki Joke Feast, just copy these jokes etc. onto some colored construction paper cut out into oak leaf shapes. Don’t forget to leave room for the answers, so you and your party guests can quickly jot them down when they are announced on Katuah National Radio!

If you feel that your upcoming travels and/or environmental shifts may take you to places where a construction paper oak leaf could disintegrate or otherwise decay, you may wish to consider crafting this item from something a bit more durable, and/or washable. This is an important back-to-school step you should take, since your Oak Leaf will open doors for you and your party guests when the Ninjas swarm Katuah to ensure its continued liberation.

Please help and assist!
I am trying to re-organize the Internet as per your instructions and am not having very much success.

First of all I have just a whole lot of information clumped at the Western-most point of the Loop, I mean it just isn't funny.

Then in the Nucleus Area I have practically nothing at all! What I am able to find is either corny and stereotypical, or it is utterly depressing.

The Northern-most point of the loop is not looking so bad, and the Eastern-most point is getting a little better, but I am still having trouble hunting down the right kind of content for these parts of the loop.

Am I doing something wrong?

Most people find it very difficult, if not impossible, to find relevant Internet content related to (the Nucleus Area). That is why your job is so important!

Try concentrating on the Southern-most point of the loop for the moment. Whatever you happen to find that also belongs in the (Nucleus Area) category, file it accordingly and consider yourself lucky. (The Nucleus Area) is practically invisible from the point of view of "The Internet" - but not for long, if folks like you keep up your good work.

Also, remember that a well-balanced Internet diet must include a little bit of grit now and then, so don't be afraid to serve a certain amount of not-so-fun content.

MGR writes "National Geographic is reporting that Japanese scientists have discovered a way to convert vegetable oil into biodiesel with a much less expensive catalyst (between 10 and 50 times cheaper) than what is currently used. From the article: 'Any vegetable oil can become fuel, but not until its fatty acids are converted to chemical compounds known as esters. Currently the acids used to convert the fatty acids are prohibitively expensive. Michikazu Hara, of the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Yokohama, Japan, and his colleagues have used common, inexpensive sugars to form a recyclable solid acid that does the job on the cheap.'"

A new report from human rights tech project OpenNet Initiative provides new insight into how internet filtering technologies developed in the West are used by oppressive governments.

This terrific little blue heeler was rescued (just in the nick of time) from the Giles County Animal Shelter yesterday. "Cleo" is loyal, energetic, and a joy to be around. She is also great with cats.

This weekend there will be an open house at the Giles County Shelter in Pearisburg, Virginia.

The bill, called the “Gasoline for America’s Security Act” (H.R. 3893), would eliminate a critical part of the Clean Air Act, called new source review, that requires utilities to install new pollution control equipment when they make significant upgrades to coal-fired power plants.

On Friday, September 30th at 8:00 pm poets Jonathan Williams and Thomas Meyer will read their work at the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center located at 56 Broadway in downtown Asheville. The authors will have books for sale at the event.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina (Jonathan Williams) and Seattle, Washington (Thomas Meyer), their combined talents have resulted in two fascinating, occasionally overlapping bodies of work. Working adeptly in many fields, Williams and Meyer delve most deeply into poetry, prose, translations of ancient texts, photography and, of course, publishing.

The Jargon Press, started by Jonathan Williams in 1951 when he was a student at Black Mountain College, carries on the difficult task of publishing as a small press in a big press world. Under the umbrella of The Jargon Society (Mission Statement: "To keep afloat the Ark of Culture in these dark and tacky times!") Jargon has become one of the most active small publishers in the United States. Williams and Meyer, Jargon Director and Assistant Director respectively, have published poetry by the likes of Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Kenneth Patchen, Denise Levertov, Paul Metcalf, and many others, as well as photographic monographs and books about Southern folk art.

Williams’ and Meyer’s individual pursuits tend to be as eclectic as their publishing venture. Jonathan Williams has more than fifty published books including An Ear in Bartram's Tree (1969), Blues and Roots/Rue and Bluets (1971), The Loco Logodaedalus in Situ (1972), Elite/Elate Poems (1979) and the recent Jubilant Thicket (2005). As a photographer he created some of the most unforgettable and iconic images associated with Black Mountain College including portraits of the poets, artists and musicians in residence there. Among his many honors are a Guggenheim Fellowship for Poetry, numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, honorary degrees, and the 1977 North Carolina Award in Fine Arts. In 1980 he was one of 21 poets invited by Rosalynn Carter to read at the White House during a “Salute to American Poetry and Poets”.

Thomas Meyer’s numerous books include The Bang Book (1971), Uranian Roses (1977), Sappho’s Raft (1982), Sonnets & Tableaux (with Sandra Fisher, artist) (1987), At Dusk Iridescent (A Gathering of Poems 1971-1996) (1999), and the forthcoming translation Daode jing (Tao te ching) (2005). Awards and honors for Meyer’s work include The Wilton Moore Lockwood Prize
for distinguished writing in course (Bard College) 1969, NEA Creative Fellowship in Poetry 1980, Ingram-Merrill Award for Poetry 1982, NEA Opera & Music Theater (New American Works), and the Creative Fellowship for Librettists 1987.
